Watch the video below. Then fill in the worksheet to describe the creature. We are working towards writing non-chronological reports so you need to remain as factual as possible e.g. The creature has two large round yellow eyes or When it is angry, the creature makes a growling sound.

Practise adding and subtracting 3 digit numbers. Choose your own numbers to work with - you could roll a dice to get the digits. Use the compact method that you have learnt in class. If you need reminding, click on the 'Maths Support' star on the Year 3 page and there is a link to some videos of the methods - you will need to look at 'Compact Column Addition' and 'Compact Column Subtraction'.

Bella is working out 305 + 407. She thinks the answer will have 0 in the
tens column because there are no 10s in 305 or 407.
Explain Bella’s mistake.

Max is working out 184 + 217. He thinks he will only exchange the ones because the tens only add up to 9.
1. Is he correct? Test his idea by workingo out the calculation and explain what you have foun out.
2. Can you invent 3 different calculations that have the same effect?
