English

Please start at the top, even if you are starting your day 4 isolation on Wednesday. You won't be able to do task 3 without doing task 1-2 first.

Task 1

Your task today is to create a for and against table based on the expansion of the railway. Think back to all the History lessons we did on Brunel and the development of railways. What problems did Brunel have when trying to expand the railway? What benefits could the expansion of the railway bring?

Write a 'for and against' table on your piece of paper and think of some reasons for the expansion of the railway and reasons against the expansion of the railway.

Use the website below to gather some ideas.

Example:

For

It is a cheaper and faster way to transport goods.

Against

It will damage the canal businesses.

Task 2

In today's task, you will be asked to plan your balanced argument.

In your plan, you will need to include: an introduction, points for and against the expansion of the railway, evidence for each point and a conclusion.

Below is an example of what your plan should look like.

You will only need a few points in each section.

Each point will need some evidence.

Use your 'for and against' table to help you (Task 1)

Task 3

In this lesson, you will begin to write your balanced argument. Before you do, go through the PowerPoint below and have a look at the example. As you look through the example, think about what features it included and how you might write yours.

Attached is an example of a balanced argument you can use to help you write yours. Make sure to follow the plan you have made and use the support sheets to help you.

Before you start, pick how you would like to write your balanced argument:
